Move. Connect. Grow.
Pernik is at a turning point. A city once defined by industry is now driven by ideas, creativity, and youth energy. This transformation is not abstract — it is visible in schools, neighborhoods, cultural spaces, and community projects led by young people. The candidacy for 2029 is more than a title. It is a roadmap for the future of Pernik — a future where young people live, create, and thrive in a city that listens, understands, and evolves alongside them. At the core of our approach are quality public spaces for youth, social and green innovation, the development of digital and civic competences, support for entrepreneurship and cultural expression, and a clear commitment to mental health and wellbeing.Pernik is ready. Ready to lead. Ready to learn. Ready to grow — with young people at the center of every decision. European Youth Capital 2029 is not simply a recognition we seek. It is a transformation we commit to. The future starts here — and it moves.

Move. Connect. Grow.
Located at the heart of Bulgaria’s Just Transition region, Pernik is turning challenges into drivers for innovation. Young people are shaping new visions for climate action, culture, digital participation, mental health, civic engagement, and social inclusion. A new youth ecosystem is emerging — one that is inclusive, accessible, and sustainable, where participation is not a single event but part of the city’s culture. This change is grounded in a strong network of youth structures and organizations. The International Youth Center – Pernik, the Youth Advisory Council to the Mayor, volunteer networks, and active local NGOs give voice, support, and representation to thousands of young people. They ensure that youth policy in Pernik is co-created, transparent, and meaningful.Pernik is building partnerships with national institutions, European organizations, and municipalities across the Balkan region. The city works closely with current and former European Youth Capitals and with Council of Europe quality-labelled youth centers to exchange know-how, introduce European standards, and develop long-term frameworks for sustainable youth development. Our ambition is to connect local needs with European experience and to turn ideas into results that last.

Through the EYC 2029 process, we seek not only to earn the title, but to foster real change and overcome the local challenges that young people in Pernik face – including limited opportunities, social exclusion, and economic vulnerability.
